Saipan Moves Commonwealth Covenant Day Public Holiday Date

Source: The Saipan Tribune (Garapan)
Posted: Wednesday, March 21, 2007

Government offices will be closed on March 22, in celebration of Commonwealth Covenant Day, observed every March 24.

As that holiday falls on a Saturday this year, it was supposed to be commemorated on Friday. However, it was moved to a day earlier because Friday, March 23, is a scheduled austerity holiday (2007-01-02 and 2006-09-01).

Note that pursuant to Public Law 15-4, enacted in April 2006 (2006-05-01), the January 9, Commonwealth Day public holiday, and March 24, Covenant Day public holiday, were combined into the Commonwealth Covenant Day public holiday.
