At today's plenary session of the Majilis (Kazakhstan's Lower House of Parliament), deputies approved a bill which would create a new annual non-working public holiday on July 6, the Day of the Capital.

As this new holiday falls on a Sunday this year, and as per the 2001 amendment to the law on public holidays of Kazakhstan (2001-12-14), a day in lieu would automatically be given on Monday, July 7, 2008.

The bill now goes to the Senate for approval.
