South Africa One-Off May 2nd Public Holiday

(Posted on Tuesday, March 18, 2008)

Source: Eyewitness News (Johannesburg)

South African President, Thabo Mbeki, will declare Friday May 2, 2008, a one-off bridge public holiday, to compensate for the fact that the 2 public holidays of Human Rights Day and Good Friday occur on the same day, March 21, in 2008.

Note that this declaration makes the 2008 one-off bridge school holiday (22-Mar-2006) declared for May 2, 2008, a moot point now that the date is a full-fledged public holiday.
