Antigua and Barbuda Post-Election Public Holiday Expected

(Posted on Thursday, March 12, 2009)

Local media sources in Antigua and Barbuda expect Friday, March 13, 2009, the day after today's general elections, to be declared a one-off public holiday, "regardless of which party wins".

Declaring a public holiday on the day after an election is quite a common practice in the Caribbean (see, for example, Barbados, 17-Jan-2008, 21-May-2003, and Grenada 09-Jul-2008, 27-Nov-2003, and 21-Oct-2003).
