Australia's Victoria State Clarifies Melbourne Cup Public Holiday Coverage
Posted: Thursday, April 30, 2009
The government of Australia's State of Victoria has ruled out changes that would have allowed some towns to take the Melbourne Cup public holiday on another, municipally significant, day.
Last summer (2008-08-16) the Victoria State government passed a law which amended the Public Holidays Act 1993, bringing the 28 rural councils in line with the 31 metropolitan councils which celebrate Melbourne Cup Day on the first Tuesday in November, giving all Victorian 11 public holidays a year instead of 10.
