Estonia's parliament has approved the Public and National Holidays Act Amendment Act (RT I 2009, 34, 229) which amends the current legislation governing public holidays, days off, and national holidays in Estonia.

The aforementioned act amends the 1998 Public and National Holidays Act (RT I 1998, 13, 162) which overhauled the Estonian legislation governing public holidays and days off in Estonia (1998-01-27), as was amended (1999-02-11, 2004-04-14, 2005-03-23, 2005-04-15, 2007-02-15), by adding a new annual national holiday, Commemoration Day of victims of Nazism and Communism, on August 23.
