Ghana Trial Census On November 8

Ghana Government Statistician, Dr Grace Bediako, has announced that the trial census to precede the 2010 Population and Housing Census (PHC) will start on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

As reported in September (18-Sep-2009), Ghana's Minister of Finance, Dr. Kwabena Dufuor has announced that the 2010 Population and Housing Census is likely to be held in March 2010, following the declaration of the Census Night, usually on a Sunday, followed by a Monday public holiday (01-Mar-2000).

There is an extremely tenuous chance that the Monday following the trial census (ie. Monday, November 9, 2009) will be declared a public holiday, but we feel that this is unlikely, as the trial census is limited in geographical scope (six districts within the three ecological zones), and there are still rumblings about the recent addition of an annual, September 21, public holiday (17-Sep-2009 and 03-Sep-2009).
