Iraq Declares June 30 Public Holiday

Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has declared the 'blessed day' of Tuesday, June 30, 2009, a one-off public holiday in celebration of the upcoming partial US withdrawal (from Iraqi cities and towns).

Note that another public holiday may be coming up at the end of July, on the occasion of the national referendum on the country's security agreement with the United States (2009-06-15).
