Maldives Declare March 2 Public Holiday

Late last night, Maldives' President Nasheed declared Monday, March 2, 2009, as a one-off public holiday to coincide with its Presidential Address to the People's Majlis (parliament).

It would thus seem that the Maldives' recently-elected president will carry on his predecessor's tradition of declaring public holidays to coincide with most official landmark ceremonies (see, for example, 2008-08-06).
