New Zealand To Consider Matariki Maori New Year Public Holiday

New Zealand's Maori Party has announced that it would introduce a private member bill into the 49th Parliament, making Matariki Maori New Year a public holiday throughout New Zealand.
The new public holiday created by the "the Matariki Maori New Year Bill 2009" would be observed "on the day of the next new moon following the day in which it rises in the months of May or June".
