The Mayor of the capital of the Philippines, Alfredo Lim, announced that Malacañang had issued Proclamation No. 1799 declaring Wednesday, June 24, 2009, as a special non-working public holiday in Manila, in commemoration of the 438th founding anniversary of the city.

Technically, this municipal public holiday is not annual, and needs to be proclaimed every year, but in the past this has become a formality (2008-06-16).
