South Africa's Presidential Inauguration Date Set

(Posted on Saturday, April 18, 2009)

South Africa government spokesperson, Themba Maseko, has announced that the upcoming presidential inauguration would be held on May 9th, 2009, for the first time ever on a Saturday.

The reason for the choice of a Saturday date is that by law the date should be a public holiday, but was precluded by the recent backlash from the South African business community, reacting to the declaration of April 22 as a public holiday on account of the upcoming presidential elections (19-Mar-2009).
