South Africa government spokesperson, Themba Maseko, has announced that the upcoming presidential inauguration would be held on May 9th, 2009, for the first time ever on a Saturday.
The reason for the choice of a Saturday date is that by law the date should be a public holiday, but was precluded by the recent backlash from the South African business community, reacting to the declaration of April 22 as a public holiday on account of the upcoming presidential elections (2009-03-19).
