Afghanistan Moves 2011 Prophet's Birthday Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, December 9, 2010)

The government of Afghanistan has moved the upcoming Prophet's Birthday public holiday to Wednesday, February 16, 2011, as the currently expected date conflicts with that year's Liberation Day public holiday.

A few years ago (14-Feb-2007), on the recommendation of the lower house of parliament, the Afghan government declared the 26th day of Dalwo (around February 15) as a new annual public holiday to commemorate the departure of Soviet troops eighteen years before.
