At the request of the Chief Minister Designate, Hubert Hughes, following his election yesterday, the Governor of Anguilla, Alistair Harrison, has declared tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17, 2010, a one-off national public holiday.

The Anguilla United Front Party, defeated in yesterday's elections, had similarly declared a one-off post-election public holiday on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, following its reelection (22-Feb-2005).

Such post-election public holidays are a common occurrence in many Caribbean countries (26-Jan-2010, 30-Dec-2009, 08-Sep-2009, 13-Mar-2009, 05-May-2005, 21-May-2003, 21-Oct-2003, 27-Nov-2003, and 23-May-1997).
