Anguilla Declares Tomorrow A Public Holiday

At the request of the Chief Minister Designate, Hubert Hughes, following his election yesterday, the Governor of Anguilla, Alistair Harrison, has declared tomorrow, Wednesday, February 17, 2010, a one-off national public holiday.

The Anguilla United Front Party, defeated in yesterday's elections, had similarly declared a one-off post-election public holiday on Tuesday, February 22, 2005, following its reelection (2005-02-22).

Such post-election public holidays are a common occurrence in many Caribbean countries (2010-01-26, 2009-12-30, 2009-09-08, 2009-03-13, 2005-05-05, 2003-05-21, 2003-10-21, 2003-11-27, and 1997-05-23).
