Argentina Decrees Public Holidays Overhaul

Argentina's President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, has signed a decree, published in today's Boletín Oficial (Número 32.020, Año CXVIII), implementing the public holidays revision currently being reviewed by the legislature.

Last September (2010-09-13), President Kirchner presented a bill which proposed wholesale changes to Argentina's public holidays, starting in 2011. However, despite a generally positive response, and the bill being fast tracked (2010-10-01), President Kirchner felt that the pace of the legislative process was too slow, and decided to use a presidential decree, as she had done last spring for the bicentennial additional public holiday (2010-05-04).
