Bolivian Indigenous Public Holidays Update

(Posted on Wednesday, August 4, 2010)

The Bolivian native people's association (Confederación de Pueblos Indígenas de Bolivia, CIDOB) has petitioned the Bolivian government to declare August 15 as the "Día Indígena Originario".

This follows the recent observance of August 2 as the "Día del indio" as well as last year's Decreto Supremo Nº 173 declaring that the Indigenous New Year, on June 21, would henceforth be an annual public holiday in Bolivia (18-Jun-2009).
