The legislative assembly of the Republic of the Congo has passed a law making November 28 a new annual public holiday.

As per the official text voted by the Assemblée nationale, the new November 28 public holiday, to be called "Jour de la République", will be a fully-paid non-working day ("le 28 novembre de chaque année sera férié, chômé, fêté et payé").

Note that November 28 had been instituted as a national public holiday, by the "loi 42-59 du 2 octobre 1959", but this law was never gazetted and therefore never came into effect.
