Dominica's Waterfront and Allied Workers Union (WAWU) has confirmed that the date of the upcoming Merchants' Holiday, Monday, January 3, 2011, was not a non-working public holiday.

Merchants' Holiday is traditionally observed on January 2 or 3, depending on the years, and was traditionally used for retailers to take inventory.
