Indonesia Declares May 11 Regional Public Holiday

The Governor of Indonesia's Province of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika, in accordance with gubernatorial regulations, has declared a one-off regional public holiday on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, the date of the upcoming mayoral election day.

As per the gubernatorial decree, "The holiday applies to those working in government, state enterprise and private company employees as well as school and university students. Elementary school students will be exempt as well as those involved in the exams".

In a separate statement, Denpasar municipality spokesman, Made Erwin Suryadarma, said that hotels, restaurants and shopping centers, would be allowed to have their employees working on the day of the elections.

Election days are often declared as one-off public holidays (2009-07-03, 2009-03-31, 2004-03-30 and 1999-05-29) in Indonesia.
