The president of Nauru, Marcus Stephen, has declared tomorrow, May 8, 2010, as a one-off public holiday in Nauru on the occasion of the passing of the 2010 Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton.
According to the announcement, the aforementioned public holiday was declared "to make it convenient for people of Nauru to celebrate the occasion of arrival of the Baton".
Last summer (31-Aug-2009), President Stephen had declared September 1st, 2009, a national public holiday, to celebrate the launch of Digicel's GSM mobile telecommunications network.
