Niger's Ministère de la Fonction Publique et du Travail has announced that the upcoming Maoulid (Prophet's Birthday) public holiday would be observed on Friday, February 26, 2010.

The communiqué, stemming from one issued by the Secrétariat général du Ministère des Affaires Religieuses et de l'Action Humanitaire goes on to say that the aforementioned announcement was made as the new Moon crescent was sighted over Niger on Sunday night, February 14, 2010.

Despite the above pronouncements, once again, the announced date for a Muslim holiday in Niger follows the Saudi Umm al-Qura calendar.
