Posted on Wednesday, September 22, 2010

The Romanian Senate has rejected legislation that would have created a new, February 20, national public holiday commemorating the emancipation of the country's Roma.

Recall (2010-01-25) that the President of Romania's Senate, Mircea Geoana, is on record supporting the creation of a new annual official public holiday, Ziua Micii Uniri, on January 24, the date when Wallachia and Moldavia were reunified in 1859.
