The Information Minister of the Lakes State of Sudan, Marik Nanga Marik, has announced that the council of ministers had decided to declare the period from November 25 until December 1, 2010, as public sector holidays to give enough time for officials working in the state government to join their respective community to get registered for the upcoming referendum.

Last year (2009-11-08 and 2009-11-11), the President of Sudan's semi-autonomous Southern Sudan (GoSS), Salva Kiir Mayardit, had issued a presidential order declaring seven days of public holiday, from November 11 to 17, 2009, in order to enable government officials to mobilize for voter registration.
