Afghanistan Announces Prophet's Birthday Public Holiday

(Posted on Monday, February 14, 2011)

Source: Pajhwok Afghan News (Kabul)

The government of Afghanistan has declared Wednesday, February 16, 2011, as a public holiday on the occasion of the Birthday celebration of prophet Mohammad (Mawlod).

The aforementioned announcement confirms the recent (26-Jan-2011) announcement by the government of Afghanistan of the list of official public holidays in Afghanistan for the calendar year 2011.

That announcement, in turn, confirmed last December's announcement (09-Dec-2010) that the government of Afghanistan had moved the upcoming Prophet's Birthday public holiday to Wednesday, February 16, 2011, as the currently expected date of February 15 conflicted with that year's Liberation Day public holiday (14-Feb-2007).
