Australia's Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, has announced that, contrary to widespread rumours, she would not declare a one-off public holiday to celebrate the upcoming assured victory of Cadel Evan in this year's Tour de France bicycle race.
The aforementioned rumours had been fueled by the 1983 precedent, when then Prime Minister, Bob Hawke, declared a public holiday after Australia's America's Cup victory.
