The Government of Bangladesh is asking for input from all its ministries and divisions on its proposed "'Public Holiday Announcement Bill, 2011" which would legislate the annual declaration of public holidays for government, semi-government, autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations.

The committee working on the proposed "'Public Holiday Announcement Bill, 2011" is chaired by public administration ministry secretary Iqbal Mahmud, who expects that a draft bill will soon be submitted to the Cabinet for approval.

Currently, public holidays in Bangladesh are announced once a year by the Government of Bangladesh (2010-10-19, 2009-11-23, and 2009-01-12) and, although there is a relatively stable base of annual public holidays on which one can count, there are often changes in public holidays depending on the various changes of government over the years (2009-08-10, 2008-12-14, 2007-11-29, 2008-08-10, 2007-08-06, 2006-11-07, 2003-11-05, 2001-12-24, and 1996-07-01).
