The president of Bangladesh's government's Moon Sighting Committee, Mohammad Shahjahan Mia, has announced that the first day of Ramadan in Bangladesh would not be August 1st, 2011, but likely Tuesday, August 2, 2011, instead.
The aforementioned announcement makes it difficult to see how it could be reconciled with the list of official public holidays for the calendar year 2011 which had been approved at a Cabinet meeting last fall (2010-10-19).
In the announced list of Bangladesh 2011 public holidays, the dates listed for the End of Ramadan public holidays are August 30-31 and September 1, 2011. A last-minute change to these dates, similar to what was recently done for the Shab-e-Barat public holiday (2011-07-11), is possible.
