A spokesman for President Boni Yayi, Marcel de Souza, has announced to the media that Friday, March 11, 2011, would be declared a one-off public holiday to allow voters more time during the current voter registration.

As per the statement that followed yesterday's special meeting of Benin's council of ministers, "Le Conseil extraordinaire des ministres a en outre déclaré la journée du vendredi 11 mars chômée et payée sur toute l'étendue du territoire national".

Last year (2010-05-12), Bénin's Secrétaire Général du Gouvernement, Ibraïma Soulemane, announced that the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bénin had declared a similar one-off public holiday, for Friday, May 14, 2010, to assist in the progress of Bénin's current census.
