The October 18 regional non-working public holiday in the Ecuadoran province of Manabí is uncertain following contradictory announcements by the national government of Ecuador and the regional government of Manabí.
The governor of Ecuador's province of Manabí, Susana Dueñas, had announced that Tuesday, October 18, 2011, would, as per custom, be a regional non-working public holiday.
However, over the weekend, this was contradicted by the national vice-minister of the civil service, Juan Fernando Salazar, who issued a communique which stipulates ("el día 25 de junio, cómo día de descanso obligatorio, único y exclusivo del cantón Portoviejo") that the only regional public holiday in the cantón was June 25 (24-Jun-2009).
