Gambia's president, Yahya Jammeh, has declared Monday, August 15, 2011, as a public holiday throughout Gambia in observance of the Feast of the Sang Marie.

The Gambian feast of the Sang Marie is a local Gambian religious holiday loosely corresponding to the Feast of the Assumption. It was an official Gambian non-working public holiday from 1958-1976, when it was canceled. It was, however, restored as an official Gambian non-working public holiday, the year after.
