Ghana Declares African Union Public Holiday

The Ghanaian Ministry of the Interior has announced that Friday, May 25, 2011, would be a non-working public holiday throughout Ghana on account of the upcoming African Union Day.

The aforementioned announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Sector Minister, Dr Benjamin Kunbuor.

Such last-minute re-confirmations of public holidays are common in Ghana, although it seems particularly frequent for the May 25 public holiday (21-May-2010, 21-May-2009 and 19-May-2007).
