The government of Guyana has announced that the upcoming Deepavali would be observed as a non-working public holiday on Wednesday, October 26, 2011.

Although last-minute announcements of the date of the Youmun Nabi public holiday are a staple of Guyana life (2011-02-14, 2010-02-18, 2009-03-01, 2007-03-22, 2006-04-01 and 2005-04-12), announcements for the date of the Deepavali non-working public holiday are less frequent.

Note that Guyana uses the Southern Indian Deepavali calculation method to determine the date of the Deepavali non-working public holiday, as do most of the world's countries in which Deepavali is an official non-working public holiday.
