Guyana's Private Sector Commission (PSC) and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana (FITUG) have called on the government of Guyana and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), to declare Monday, November 28, 2011, the date of the upcoming general elections, a national non-working public holiday.

Last month (2011-10-10), Guyana's President, Bharrat Jagdeo, had announced that Monday, November 28, 2011, would be the date of the upcoming general and regional elections in Guyana.

At the time we had surmised that this date might eventually be declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Guyana, as the date of the previous general election, Monday, August 28, 2006, was declared a one-off non-working public holiday in Guyana (2006-08-23).
