The President of the transitional government of Kyrgyzstan, Roza Otunbayeva, has signed a "decree on the Anniversary of April People's Revolution", whose corresponding bill in Parliament states that April 7, should henceforth be declared as a non-working public holiday "in honor of the people's revolution".

At the same time a move is afoot in Kyrgyzstan's Parliament to cancel the March 24 public holiday, signed into law by President Bakiev, three years ago (2008-03-17), after a few missed starts (2006-04-04 and 2007-03-16).
