Kyrgyzstan Considering April 7 Public Holiday

(Posted on Thursday, March 3, 2011)

The President of the transitional government of Kyrgyzstan, Roza Otunbayeva, has signed a "decree on the Anniversary of April People's Revolution", whose corresponding bill in Parliament states that April 7, should henceforth be declared as a non-working public holiday "in honor of the people's revolution".

At the same time a move is afoot in Kyrgyzstan's Parliament to cancel the March 24 public holiday, signed into law by President Bakiev, three years ago (17-Mar-2008), after a few missed starts (04-Apr-2006 and 16-Mar-2007).
