The Human Resource Minister of Malaysia's State of Sarawak, S. Subramaniam, has announced that the Sarawak state government was considering the possibility of making Deepavali into a non-working public holiday in the State of Sarawak.
The aforementioned announcement by the Barisan Nasional (BN) party was made in the lead-up to the upcoming April 16 Sarawak state election.
Recall that, recently (2011-01-20), Malaysia's Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak, had announced that he would ensure that Thaipusam became a public holiday in Kedah State, if the Barisan Nasional (BN) party were to win the next state elections.
