The Nepalese Government has declared Sunday, August 14, 2011, as a regional public holiday in the Kathmandu Valley on account of the upcoming Gaijatra festival.
The Gaijatra festival is also observed, but not as an official non-working public holiday, in Banepa, Dhulikhel, Trisuli, Dolakha, Khotang, Bhojpur, Chainpur, Ilam, Dharan, Biratnagar, Birgunj, Hetauda and Pokhara.
The Nepalese Government has, however, not yet responded to the recent (31-Jul-2011) request by the Nepal Astrologers' Council to change the date of the public holiday associated with the upcoming Gaura Parba festival, from September 5, 2011, to Sunday, August 21, 2011.
