Nicaragua Declares Public Holiday On September 16

Nicaragua's Minister of Labour, Jeannette Chávez Gómez, has issued a communique announcing that Friday, September 16, 2011, would be an additional non-working paid public sector holiday to bridge the gap between the upcoming national days public holidays and the weekend of September 17-18, 2011.

The aforementioned announcement mirrors last year's (2010-09-03) declaration of Monday, September 13, 2010, as an additional one-off bridge public holiday for the public sector to link the weekend of September 11-12 with the annual public holidays of September 14 (San Jacinto Day) and September 15 (Independence Day).

Contrary to what happened on other occasions when a public sector holiday was declared (2010-07-09), the extra day off is to be deducted from the annual vacations tally for each civil servant ("se declara dícho día como asueto a cuenta de vacaciones para todas las personas trabajadoras del sector público").
