Paraguay's President, Fernando Lugo, has issued the Decreto 7979 which decrees 2 non-working public sector holidays for Friday, December 23, and Friday, December 30, 2011, to let Paraguay's civil servants begin their Christmas and New Year public holidays earlier.

As per the aforementioned Decreto No. 7979, Paraguay's public servants will be off Friday, December 23, and Friday, December 30, 2011, at 11:00 am ("considerando las celebraciones por Navidad y Año Nuevo").

Paraguay's public servants have often benefited from one-off public holidays in the past, most commonly for Holy Wednesday (2011-04-18, 2010-03-30 and 2009-04-06), and for the year-end (2010-12-23 and 2009-12-23).
