The Romanian Chamber of Deputies is set to finally vote, tomorrow, on the proposed new January 24 public holiday.

Late last year (2010-11-30), the Romanian Senate had approved a draft law, introduced 2 years ago (2009-01-20), which would declare January 24, the anniversary of the reunification of Wallachia and Moldavia, as a new annual legal public holiday in Romania.

Then, at the beginning of this year (2011-01-13), the Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies Commission in charge of reviewing proposed public holidays, Claudia Boghicevici, announced that the bill making January 24 an annual public holiday would not be approved in time for 2011.

However, Commission Vice-President Boghicevici did go on to say that the bill would be discussed in plenary session in February 2011, and that she expected it to eventually be approved, but beginning in 2012, only.
