The official list and dates of the 2012 bank holidays and public holidays in Thailand have been announced.
Interestingly, although, in Thailand, public holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday give rise to a day in lieu public holiday on the next regular working day (2004-02-06), for 2012 the list of official non-working public holidays in Thailand only lists one day in lieu public holiday for both December 31 (2011) and January 1 (2012) which fall on a weekend ("Substitution for New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (Saturday 31 December 2011 and Sunday 1 January 2012)").
Once again (2010-08-27), the aforementioned announcement confirms the removal of the Buddhist Lent public holiday, having been replaced, beginning in 2007 (B.E. 2550), by the holiday that always occurs a day before, Asarnha Bucha (2006-11-16).
The Royal Ploughing Ceremony public holiday, as usual (2009-04-26), will only be announced a couple of weeks before the actual event.
