The Turks and Caicos Office Of Public Service Management has announced that the previously announced date of March 7, 2011, for the upcoming Commonwealth Day public holiday was incorrect and that the correct date for the 2011 Commonwealth Day public holiday was Monday, March 14, 2011.
The erroneous date was announced last fall (2010-10-22), when the Office Of Public Service Management of the Turks and Caicos Islands released the list of official public holidays in the Turks and Caicos Islands, for the calendar year 2011. Such revisions of the previously announced list of official public holidays in the Turks and Caicos have often occurred in the past (2010-02-01 and 2009-03-17).
In addition, local media are reporting that The Turks and Caicos government has just declared Friday, April 29, 2011, the date of the upcoming UK royal wedding, as a one-off public holiday in the Turks and Caicos.
Recall that, late last year (2010-12-21), the party leader of the Turks and Caicos Peoples Democratic Movement, Doug Parnell, had called on the interim government to declare Friday, April 29, 2011, the date of the upcoming wedding of Prince William, a public holiday in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Currently, the UK (2010-11-23), Scotland (2010-11-24), the Cayman Islands (2011-02-01), the Isle of Man (2011-01-10), Gibraltar (2011-01-06), Guernsey and Alderney (2011-01-26), Jersey (2011-01-20), and the Falkland Islands (2011-02-02), have officially announced that Friday, April 29, 2011, would be a one-off public holiday.
