The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of the government of Vietnam has announced the official public holidays in Vietnam for the calendar year 2012.

The main uncertainty, annually, is the date of the Hung Kings Anniversary public holiday, because it is never clear if the date is to be calculated using the Vietnamese calendar (the correct manner) or Chinese calendar (often done in practice).

The Hung Kings Anniversary public holiday was added to the list of official Vietnamese public holidays in March 2007 (2007-03-24), and after some hesitation, it was made a public holiday effective immediately in 2007 (2007-03-29).

As was the case a few years ago (2009-03-22), in 2012 the Hung Kings Anniversary public holiday is expected to fall on a Saturday and therefore give rise to a day in lieu public holiday on the following Monday.
