Madagascar's Commission électorale malgache (Cenit), has announced that the date of the long and oft postponed general elections, and corresponding electoral public holiday, would finally be announced on August 1, 2012.

Contrary to what was announced last month (2012-06-08) by Madagascar's President, Andry Rajoelina, the Cenit now favors a date in the May/June 2012 period recommended by the United Nations.
