The Office of the President of the Maldives, Mohamed Waheed, has released a press communique indicating that Thursday, March 1, 2012, had been declared a one-off public holiday as the first sitting of the People's Majlis for the current year will be held on that date.

In the past 3 consecutive years (2011-02-22, 2010-02-22 and 2009-03-02), former Maldives' President Nasheed had also declared one-off non-working public holidays on the date of the first sitting of the People's Majlis of the year.

Next week, in addition to the aforementioned March 1st public holiday, it should be noted that the Government of the Maldives has also recently announced that Sunday, February 26, 2012, would be an additional official non-working public holiday in the Maldives (2012-02-16).
