Nicaragua's President, Daniel Ortega, has announced that Monday, April 30, 2012, would be a one-off non-working public holiday in Nicaragua as that day is sandwiched (encajonado) between the weekend and the annual, May 1st, non-working public holiday.

As per the aforementioned announcement, and as is usually done (2011-09-13), the Monday, April 30, 2012, non-working public holiday will apply to the public sector of the economy of Nicaragua (ie. employees of the state) so that Nicaraguans can enjoy a period of rest with their families ("para que los trabajadores puedan tomarse un tiempo de descanso con la familia, (y) hacer sus celebraciones").
