The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has made a call for the devolution of the power to declare public holidays in Nigeria to the individual Nigerian states rather than the Federal Government.

One-off state public holidays are relatively common in Nigeria (2012-11-09, 2012-07-08, 2012-06-09, 2012-04-25, and 2012-04-09), but there are few, if any, annual, state public holidays, although some dates, such as June 12, recur regularly as state public holidays (2012-06-09, 2011-06-10, 2010-06-11. 2009-06-11, 2008-06-11, and 2006-06-10).
