France's President, Nicolas Sarkozy, has announced that he was in favour of declaring one non-working public holiday per religion in the French DOM-TOM of La Réunion.
This is a topic that crops up in mid-April, every year (14-Apr-2011).
Then 2 years ago (15-Feb-2010), the Socialist Party's, premier secrétaire fédéral, for the Réunion, Gilbert Annette, promised 3 new public holidays, for Muslims, Chinese and Tamils.
The year before that (10-Apr-2009), the Bishop of the diocese of La Réunion, Gilbert Aubry, had announced that he was ready to cede 3 Christian public holidays (Easter Monday, Ascension, and Whitmonday) to other religions.
