The Chief Minister of Malaysia's State of Sarawak, Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, has announced that Sarawak State would not follow the Federal Territory of Labuan which recently added Deepavali as a non-working public holiday.
Earlier this week (2012-11-13), Malaysia's Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, had announced that, starting in 2013, the Deepavali public holiday would also be observed in the Federal Territory of Labuan.
This made Sarawak the last state/territory of Malaysia where Deepavali is not a non-working public holiday, as per last summer's (2012-08-01) Jadual Hari Kelepasan Am Persekutuan 2013 (Federal Public Holidays Schedule 2013).
