The Serbian government has declared a one-off non-working public holiday for Friday, February 17, 2012, to extend the upcoming National Day non-working public holidays into the following weekend.
As per the recently-amended "Law on State Holidays" of Serbia (2011-12-05), February 15 and 16 are already annual non-working public holidays in Serbia, meaning that the declaration a one-off non-working public holiday for Friday, February 17, 2012, will create a 5-day period of non-working public holidays in Serbia, from February 15-19, 2012, inclusively.
The aforementioned announcement follows the request, earlier this week (2012-02-08), by Serbia's government advisor for energy issues, Petar Skundric, who recommended to the Serbian government that it declare the period of February 15-20, 2012, as non-working public holidays in Serbia in an effort to conserve energy in the midst of the current cold spell blanketing Europe.
