The UAE's Minister of Labour, Saqr Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, has announced that Sunday, June 17, 2012, had also been declared a non-working holiday for UAE workers in private sector companies and establishments on account of the upcoming Al Isra Wal Miraj (the Ascension of Prophet Mohammed).
Yesterday (2012-06-04), in a separate announcement, the UAE's Minister of Education and Chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, Humaid Mohamed Obaid Al Qattami, had announced that Sunday, June 17, 2012, had been declared a non-working public sector holiday for workers in the ministries and federal agencies on account of the upcoming Al Isra Wal Miraj (the Ascension of Prophet Mohammed).
Contrary to what happened last year (2011-06-14), there was no need to move the Al Isra Wal Miraj (the Ascension of Prophet Mohammed) non-working public holiday as Sunday, June 17, 2012, adjoins a weekend. Before 2006, weekend days in the UAE were Thursdays and Fridays, but this was changed to Fridays and Saturdays by Cabinet decree No.21/2006 (2006-05-31).
